History of Hazrat shams-e- tabrizi

Hazrat Shams-e Tabrizi-(Ra) ad. 1248 was an Iranian Sufi mystic born in the city of Tabriz in Iranian Azerbaijan. He is responsible for initiating Mawlana Jalal ad-Din Muhammad Rumi (rah), usually known as Rumi in the West, into Islamic mysticism, and is immortalized by Rumi's poetry collection Diwan-e Shams-e Tabriz-i ("The works Shams of Tabriz ") (Ra). Hazrat Shams-e Tabrizi-(Ra) lived together with Rumi in Koyna in present day Turkey, for several years, and is also known to have traveled to Damascus in modern Syria. After several years with Rumi, Hazrat Shams-e Tabrizi-(Ra) disappeared from the pages of history quite suddenly. It is unknown what happened to him after his departure from Rumi, and there are several sites that claim to his grave, one in a remote region of the Karakoram in Northern Pakistan at a place called Ziarat, near the village Shimshall, and another in the same city that was buried in Rumi: Konya, Turkey. Rumi's love for Hazrat Shams-e Tabrizi-(Ra), and his grief at his death, found expression in an outpouring of music, dance, and lyrics. Rumi himself left Konya and went searching for Hazrat Shams-e Tabrizi-(Ra), traveled far Damascus before realizing that Hazrat Shams-e Tabrizi-(Ra) and himself were, in fact, "the same" As the years passed, Rumi attributed more and more of his own poetry to Hazrat Shams-e Tabrizi-(Raz), as a sign of love for his deceased friend and master. In fact, it soon becomes clear in reading Rumi that Hazrat Shams-e Tabrizi-(Raz), was elevated to a symbol of God's love for humanity, and that Hazrat Shams-e Tabrizi-(Ra), was a Sun ("Shams" is Arabic for "sun") shining the Light of God on Rumi. The image of Hazrat Shams-e Tabrizi-(Ra), which is transmitted in the later Sufi tradition is that of an ecstatic wandering mystic who theophanic teacher for Rumi. While the relationship between Rumi and Hazrat Shams-e Tabrizi-(Raz), is certainly one of the finest in the history of Islamic mysticism, the person of Shams is different from the image being projected onto him. The Maqalat Shams (oral discourses), which are now provided, Hazrat Shams-e Tabrizi-(Ra), comes across as a scholar, who was especially interested in proving his devotion to the Prophet Muhammad (S). He repeatedly criticizes philosophers and other mystics who tried to elevate themselves above the prophet of Islam. In the contemporary period Tabrezi Shams, there is confusion over the name "Shams" as there were three persons existing at the same time. This was Tabrezi Shams, Ismaili PIR (Dai) and Ismaili Imam Shamsuddin Shams Sabzwari. The tomb in Multan, Pakistan is Pir Shams Sabzwari, but it is known as Shams Tabrez. Nobody knows exactly where the tomb of Hazrat Shams-e Tabrizi-(GAC) is located.

  5. from what i have read about rumi and sham-e-tabreez. two thoughts came into my mind. i agree with the fact that people shall be aware of the that this maqbara in multan is not infact of sham-e-tabreez. but shouldnt we be focusing on what gem he was and what amzaingly beautiful words he left for us to consider rather than looking for his maqbara. he obviously was a personality to remember because his words had the magic that effected so many lives to the purity of soul.

  6. there is bit a mistake in article. Pir shams sabzwari was Ismaili 'Pir/dia' who first time brought Ismailism and Islam in pak-ind in multan. Whereas Imam Shams Uddin Muhammad was 28th Ismaili Imam and had never been in pak-ind. so these were two different personalities. Shams tabriz is still consider as a Pir/dia in Ismaili beliefs. afterall he had a plenty of links with islmaili. he wrote many of ginans and qasaids in love of imams, which are still chanted in Ismaili community.

  7. According to some sources this is also believed that Shams of Tabrez was mudered by the jealous disciples of Moulana Jala Ud Din Rumi. His younger son Ala ud Din was also involved in his murder but according to Moulana Jala Ud Din Rumi's Elder son's in his writings he has mentioned that Shams of Tabrez disappear one day and we never found him again in Konya. Allah knows better where he went but historians have contradiction upon his Death and Tomb.

  12. • Shams-i-Tabrīzī (Persian: شمس تبریزی‎) or Shams al-Din Mohammad (1185–1248) was a Persian Muslim, who is credited as the spiritual instructor of Mewlānā Jalāl ad-Dīn Muhammad Balkhi, also known as Rumi and is referenced with great reverence in Rumi’s poetic collection, in particular Diwan-i Shams-i Tabrīzī (The Works of Shams of Tabriz). Tradition holds that Shams taught Rumi in seclusion in Konya for a period of forty days, before fleeing for Damascus. The tomb of Shams-i Tabrīzī in Khoy (Azerbaijan) was recently nominated to be a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
    And:
    • Shamsuddin Sabzwari (died 757 A.H. / 1356 C.E) was a Muslim Sufi missionary from Sabzawar in present-day Afghanistan. Shamsuddin Sabzwari arrived in Multan in early 1200C.E. in modern Pakistan, established a dargah and preached Islam to the local population. Shamsuddin Sabzwari is considered to be a Nizari Ismaili saint due to his poetry and the local traditions.Shamsuddin Sabzwari died in 1276 and his mausoleum is located in Multan. The Urs of Shamsuddin Sabzwari takes place June of each year. . The sixth Imam, Ismail bin Imam Jafar-as-Sadiq, and the succeeding Ismaili Imams sent out Da'is (Missionaries) to the far corners of the then known world (Seerat-al-Mustaqim or Sat Panth in Indian language).
He is also famous as Pir Shams Sabzwari Multani.

  15. Bismillah . Please clarify and correct this blog. Hazrat Shams Tabrez was a different person; he was the teacher of Mevlana Rumi (Balkhi ) of Konya and his shrine is in Khoy, Iran. His "chille " in Konya is sometimes mistaken for his grave, at Rumi's Turbe /Shrine. Meanwhile Shah Shamsuddin Sabzwari was a totally different person and his shrine is in Multan, Pakistan. To end this confusion for the public you must amend this inshallah. Haq la illaha ill-Allah.
